Start of The Walking Dead Season 2

Many people are fascinated nowadays with the world of the undead. If you have noticed, vampires and zombies are the ones ruling the airwaves. They dominate television series and get very high ratings. In the big screens also, they are huge box-office successes. Ironic as it may seem but being undead seems to be the “in” thing right now for the living. Because of this many are hooked and looking forward for the pilot episode of The Walking Dead Season 2. The previous season was such a hit to the audience that the producers opted for the The Walking Dead Episode 1 of the new season planned out as soon as possible.

This series is actually adopted from a graphic novel series. The title of the novel is the same as well as the TV series. The writers of the novel are Tony Moore, Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard. The one who made it possible to be shown on television is Frank Darabont. It premiered in TV through the AMC network last October 31, 2010. For this season, it is expected to run for 13 episodes. This would surely satisfy the cravings of the fans from last season and for sure will still manage to have them craving for more episodes.

This show is actually about the plight of a group of survivors after a zombie apocalypse. The small of surviving Americans are traveling throughout the country in hope of running away from the undead. The series tells us about their daily struggles both from fighting the zombies and overcoming differences with fellow survivors. They also meet other people striving for survival as well coming from different parts of the country and their attempts to keep a peaceful relationship with each other are highlighted considering the fact that the rules of society are already gone.

Brina Meets One Of Her Musical Inspirations, Angelie Kidjo

On Tuesday Night I cried. Do you want to know why ?

After throwing a small surprise Birthday party form my husband the week before he returned the favour in taking me on a “surprise date”. Little did I know we were going to see Agélique Kidjo, Lizz Wright and Dianne Reeves perform live at The Barbican. The show was called Sing the Truth -dedicated to the songs of their most admired musical heroines; this celebration embodies the spirits of Miriam Makeba, Abbey Lincoln, and Odetta, along with other great women of music from Billie Holiday to Lauryn Hill, as well as showcasing original songs by Kidjo, Reeves and Wright. The all-star Sing The Truth ensemble features Geri Allen on piano and keyboards, music director Terri Lyne Carrington on drums, James Genus on bass, and Romero Lubambo on guitars.

As we were ran to catch the early parts of the show when we entered the lobby of the venue I still could not believe what I was hearing. The sound of my musical influence?? Still I wasn’t sure and then we bust through the door and yes I saw her, them -and my eyes ears and body came alive I sat on the last few inches of my chair the entire show close to falling off or jumping from the circle where we sat….. woiii I still couldn’t believe it !! The experience was captivating- everything that I envision for my future shows around the world.

a friend of mine was explaining that she is not one to be star struck or not very typical when meeting stars …I tried to explain to her in this way: ” there are a few people on my list that I would like to meet in my lifetime and the list for a very long time is: Nelson Mandela, Miriam Makeba, Lucky Dube, Angélique kidjo and Stevie Wonder. Now the fact is 2 of the 5 are no longer with us in this world and getting this close to my musical Icon well, it doesn’t get any better than that”.

So you see!

The show went on for a good 2hrs and 15mins nicely packed with very soulful honest and heart warming performances to be met with standing ovations for the entire set. When all was nearing an end, the grand finale came and Angélique went through the audience on the lower platform, greeting and dancing with people…. I was determined to fly off from where I was standing to get a piece of the celebrative action going on below us. After the encore was sung, I was still on a high as I watched the crowd begin to disperse. All that was on my mind was the hope of not leaving until I could see her face to face.

I finally found what looked like stairs leading to backstage, and saw at least 10 people standing in front. I don’t know what they were standing there for but somehow I knew they had the same intention that I did- however I was still convinced that no one else could have had the same motivation. I was prepared to wait till every single person had left the building, to even find the car park where the vehicles would be leaving from (in hindsight- I can only imagine the heights and depths that some die-hard fans go through when they are faced with the opportunity of meeting their favourite football player- for me the blood was pumping and the stomach churns were turned up high)

After 30 minutes of watching the tightly secured backstage door swinging open and close by people with “special passes” going in and out my heart’s desire grew stronger and stronger with the hope of catching a glimpse and maybe spontaneously shouting out Hi Angelique! Or say something like OMG – Screaammmmm !!! Then the head of security came out and said he wasn’t sure if they will ever come out to see us the ‘desperate stragglers’ and if so, he wouldn’t be able to say when that would be. Luckily, the 10 or so persons who were standing in front of me, slowly turned and left the area.

I stood there silently waiting for another chance of the door to swing open and another chance to spontaneously shout, Hi Angelique! Or say some kind of thing like OMG – Screaammmmm!! – it never happened.

To make this recount short so I don’t loose your attention and so that I create the climax of the experience, after 1hr and 30minutes of waiting, listening now to a new set of ladies who had decided to join the fete, who kept telling the disinterested security guy that they had a cousin inside, who they could not name, who was actually inside but was actually not related to any of the ladies, who later claimed that they traveled all the way from Zimbabwe to see the show, who luckily had managed to get the sympathy and attention of a few others going in and out of backstage, who later nominated me to be the spokesperson to try and get even further sympathy on “poor us” especially when I mentioned how nice it would be to see “Angélique” after all the wait and the possible chance of missing the last train just to get a glimpse, that when the door opened I didn’t even realize what was unfolding.

Brina & Dianne Reeves

Brina and Dianne Reeves

Out came Dianne Reeves to say Hi, excitement began, for the ladies from Zimbabwe were waiting to see her. I was sort of subdued in the background because My Angélique had not come out. One of the really nice ladies that were standing with me then begged if they could get her to come out…

Angelique Kidjo Embraces Brina

Angelique Kidjo Embraces Brina

And she did:

Brina World Reggae singer from Jamaica was on the floor ….. you know the expression – “if only the ground could open up and take me in” well my feet gave way thanks to the wall that held me in place from falling backwards. Standing right next to me, I crouched down so fast she didn’t even see me. When she finally saw me here words: “what are you doing down there, get up “…. My words…”no”

Can I tell you how I was in tears, I bawled as I was embraced by Angélique Kpasseloko Hinto Hounsinou Kandjo Manta Zogbin Kidjo ! widely know as Angélique Kidjo

For A simple girl like me, this was worth it, the tears and the lack of speech, especially when I came to, all I could say to her was “ you are so small!!” She asked me why I was crying and the women who previously had heard half my enthusiasm of meeting her, answered for me: “ she listens to your music daily, she loves your songs and the way you perform and… she is a singer too …they went on and on.

Brina Hugs Angelique Kidjo

Brina and Angelique Kidjo

All the excitement around was simply not penetrating my moment, my few minutes of attention from an artiste that I hold with such high esteem and pride. I held her and she held me back and I was captivated by her kindness. I could not stop beaming even behind the tears. I could not believe that I was actually soaking Angélique Kidjo’s scarf with my tears and probably creating too much heat with this long embrace. All I know was that I was extremely overwhelmed and I was more than happy for the chance to be so close to her. I wished there was more time to talk and I wish I hold a serious conversation about her journey as a female singer in this rough tough industry…. I remember instead what happened was the tour manager came around to try and get them back inside the “sacred room” and out of no where I broke out singing ….”God is truly amazing, God is truly amazing ….God is truly amazing….I got to meet Angelique Kidjo, thank you for your kindness…..” This was me singing praises to God for the moment … then I could hear the roar of everyone applauding and that was when I realized what was taking place, I begun to gather myself, wipe the tears away and straighten up my clothes. I began to think what a hot mess I must look like singing with tears running down my face- here we go again another crying vocal exercise from Brina.

I look forward to meeting this fine musician again in the realm of music and sharing the very same stage.

Thank you for taking time out to read this.

There is more to come.

Peace and Love

Mastering my Debut Album by Brina.

2 years in the making 2 years on the move.

Finally this day had arrived. Running breathless to get to the tube, and along the road to get to Kevin Metcalfe’s Soundmasters Studio. It is finally time to master my debut album!

Brina Mastering Album

Brina at Soundmasters Mastering Studio

At 10:30 a run through listen and a brief analysis of the tone and mood of each song. The song order was handed over and we were well on the way.

First under the knife was “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” Purely analogue and ingenious. As I watched Kevin’s head bop to the beat and rhythms. I sit just wondering what’s going through his mind. Very well knowing what’s going through my mind; the very uncertainty with an underlying surety of what I want. Then he says “does that sound arite?” and then I’m lost ! I’m so used to communicating with Kieran- “break this down for me…” But I’m lost for words and he could see it in my face. Simple escape I just nodded my head. I gave up and I put my entire trust in this strange guys fingers and hands to put the final touches of transmitting my artistic expression, my nakedness my art my voice to the rest of the World.

Feeling alone yet protected, scared but motivated. Then I suddenly remembered I had stuffed my comfort towel in my hand bag. That should keep me secure for the long hours ahead.

Next track: “Lala Vizuri (Sleep My Little Baby)”. Kevin: “nice mix”, with his head still bopping away. Gradually I’m warming up to him. Yet I question if this is false assurance. Along with a fresh cup of coffee next treatment is on “African Pride”; a little TLC and every instrument gets a place to shine, a little sparkle, and Voila !

Brina Masters Album

Brina Songs at Studio

Each track starts out stripped bare and then switches are flicked on, lights come on and go off knobs are turned left and right and again and again, more switches. A listen here and there and the buttons are switched on and off.

I watch carefully, listen intently to the treatment that my next song gets- “Daughter Of Zion”. In this song we battle with the bass, so we drop the intro and give the lows a greater punch on the beginning of the song. Sorted!

“Simple Progression” was a simple do. The mix was done so well that there was not much that needed reinforcement at today’s mastering session. All except two lips sounds that- I never heard and still never heard only until the visuals were pointed out- were simply smoothed over.

On the “Soul’s Song” we hit it. The clarity was enhanced and the song is finalised.

After a short break for lunch I returned to the studio on the last tweaks to “Listen”, just a little warmth needed and next patient please!

The long one featuring Toots Hibbert “Guns and Roses”. I just observed what this guy could get out of this tune.

“We Are Free” is my baby. I hold this song dear to me. I’m empowered just by believing in the simple yet integral message of this song. I’m observing how Kevin treats it. Rather it’s not how he relates to it but it’s how the song speaks to him. Then we Hit a falling wall. How do we fix it. I’m sure by this moment the look on my face is ever so disheartened. The phasing problem is sorted! on to the next track.

The morning runs into night skies.

The last track “Under One Sun” is the track that takes you elsewhere, highlighting different moods, and the mastering engineer gives it the treatment it deserves and then, and then….its over.
Next stage is the transfer of files real time and we retire home to listen with fresh ears. What a day. The day it was all set in stone.

This global release marks a momentous progression in the development of this talented singer-songwriter’s career. The song “Listen” is sure to become another reggae one-drop classic.  The catchy melody and lyrics call us to listen to the global heartbeat of mankind as we celebrate our unity in diversity while “Real Reggae Music” goes back to the heart of roots rock reggae, with a powerful message calling on Jamaicans, Africans, Americans and all world citizens, to “get rid of these walls in our minds,” and to “tear down these walls that divide” – a timely song both internationally and in Jamaica.

Brina has been gaining airplay both in Jamaica and in the UK, and also around the world with these two songs. She is currently in the UK promoting her music, and recently opened for Jamaican legends ‘The Mighty Diamonds’ and Mento veterans ‘The Jolly Boys’ on their UK tours.

As a new voice of World Roots Reggae Music from Jamaica, Brina is a breath of fresh air. Conscious of bringing a positive, healing message to the world, the lyrics in her songs speak of justice and equality, liberation, oneness and love. With legends such as Toots Hibbert and Sly Dunbar featured on Brina’s upcoming debut album, she is aiming to put positive roots reggae music with a spiritual message back on the world map. She is an artiste with a commanding stage presence and a powerful voice, who comes alive in front of a microphone. When she steps in front of an audience and sings, people listen.

Brina has spent many months in the studio recording tracks for her full-length album, which draws on and fuses together elements of her rich musical and cultural heritage such as Reggae and Nyabinghi with other musical styles from around the globe and the African Diaspora. Produced by Kieran C. Murray for Tribal Global Productions and recorded in Kingston, this album includes contributions from some of Jamaica’s finest musicians, such as the legendary Toots Hibbert providing guest vocals on one track Sly Dunbar Jubba White (from Dubtonic Kru) on drums, Rupert Bent Jr. and Omar Francis on guitars, Michael ‘Ibo’ Cooper – co founder of Third World, Sheldon Bernard, Stephen Maxwell and Jerome Tulloch on pianos and keyboards, Dean Fraser Nambo Robinson and Dwight Richards on Horns, Calvin Mitchel and Supersad on hand drums and Kieran C. Murray on Bass Guitar. From other corners of the globe John Barnes III was integral in vocal production. Guitarist/Producer J. B. Eckl (Santana, War) plays some wicked guitar.  The renowned Afro-Caribbean drummer Istvan Dely from Columbia plays percussions, Paul Gonzales from Texas adds some Latin funk flavours on drums. All lend an international flavour that exemplifies Brina’s mission of using music to express unity in diversity.

Born and Raised in rural Jamaica, Brina grew up with music, singing with her familly, in the Church, in school, and touring all over Jamaica in gospel shows with her sister as The Ward Sisters. Upon leaving High School, she enroled at Edna Manley’s School of Art, but, after two years as an art student, she found the calling of music too strong to deny and transfered to the School Of Music. During her time at Edna Manly, Brina also worked as a background singer, sharing the stage with Reggae Artistes such as Prily Hamilton, Abijah, Coco Tea, Len Hammond, Althea Hewitt and Prophecy,

With the release of her debut double A side single and upcoming album, Brina is now poised to take her music ‘to di world’ she is aware that music, a universal language which crosses all borders, is a powerful force that, when used for good, will help actualize the oneness of the whole human race.

Brina says, “My songs come alive on stage, and my music is for anyone who will listen. As I strive to help carry forward our ever-advancing civilization and spread the message of oneness unity and equality, using the world as my stage to bring people together, I am conscious of being part of a global musical movement that sings songs about real issues, songs that will uplift the spirit.”

Brina’s full length debut album will be released in the near future, and fans are encouraged to visit Brina’s website, www.brinasings.com which provides everything you could want to know about her, including her Bio, photos, live performance videos, and pre-release snippets of songs from the upcoming album.  There are also links to Brina’s Facebook, Bandcamp, Youtube and Blog sites.

Victoria Wedding Photographer | What is a Photojournalistic Style?

Like all genres and sub-genres of photography, wedding photography goes through various stages, phases and fads. Identifying the true innovators can become challenging as photography styles are borrowed, adapted and evolve as numerous photographers put their own personal touches on a theme. In the end it comes down to personal taste and making sure that a photographer’s style is consistent with how the bride and groom want to remember their wedding day.

I’m a big fan of utilizing a photojournalistic style when it comes to wedding photography. there’s a number of reasons for this. But first, full disclaimer, I do indeed capture my fair share of posed and “formal” wedding images (any quick review of my wedding portfolio reveals this). I have found that no matter how hip and edgy the bride and groom, they have a parent or other family member that would really like to have some photo prints from the wedding day, so it is inevitable that some formal and kinda posed images will be desired in addition to the obligatory group and family images. And yet, almost invariably, the images that capture people when they are relaxed and natural are most frequently the “best” images from the day.

I tend to shoot the wedding ceremony and reception with two cameras (a future article will get into more of the specific details of how I approach shooting a wedding) so that I can capture multiple views of what is happening both close and further away. The amazing advantage of this is that I can capture all kinds of fascinating moments without interfering with what is happening. I feel that many of my most “magical” images are catching people in those in-between moments at a wedding. Shooting these from a non-interfering distance allows the beauty of the wedding to unfold free of the un-natural posing induced by a camera being right up in one’s face. Using a photojournalistic style can be a great tool for wedding photography.

Artist Gucci Mane Relies Heavily on Mixtapes for Promotion

This day in age, the rap music genre has relied heavily on the use of internet promotion through the form of mixtapes to attract new fans.  Several artists including, Lil Boosie, Lil Wayne, and Gucci Mane all promote their music through the art of making mixtapes.  If you aren’t too familiar with the rap music niche, you’re probably wondering what the heck mixtapes are and whether they are different from CD’s.  Mixtapes are basically promotional CD’s that are given out to fans for free with the hopes that the fans reciprocate by purchasing albums and going to concerts.

Who is the number one artist online for mixtapes?

The top artist online today for most downloaded mixtapes is Gucci Mane.  If you were to look up Gucci Mane mixtapes, you would see that he has released over 10 tapes in just 2010 alone.  In the past, he has been known for releasing a lot of free material for his fans so that they can stay up to date with his music career.

What type of sound can you expect from Gucci Mane’s material?

For those of you that are familiar with rap and hip hop music, you can expect Gucci Mane to deliver a deep southern sound.  He uses instrumentals with heavy amounts of bass and special effects.  Various super-producers that he has worked with on his mixtapes include the likes of: Shawty Redd, Polow Da Don, Lil Jon, and Zaytoven.  If you really like hearing instrumentals that have catchy melodies, you will love the sound of those that Gucci Mane is able to get on his songs.

Are his mixtapes better than his albums?

A lot of people actually think that Gucci Mane’s mixtapes are better than his albums because they are raw, uncut, and make music for the streets.  Others think that his albums are better than his mixtapes because they are higher quality.  In the end, it is up to you to decide!

How To Provide Maintenance To Your Acoustic Guitar Strings

The strings on your acoustic guitar will lose their brightness sooner or later, and they’ll be harder to keep in tune. Maybe you’ve had the same strings for some time now, but you don’t know whether or not you should change them. In the end it’s a matter of if you like the sound or not, but there are some general guidelines to follow. In this article we’ll tell about those guidelines, and how you can make your strings last longer.

How to know when you should change your strings

They should be replaced according to whether or not you like their sound. While some players like them to be brand new, others enjoy the sound of used guitar strings. In addition, you could pay attention to the following things.

If they look rusty, black or discolored it may be time for a change. This effect happens quicker if your hands perspire a lot. If they get harder to keep in tune. This could indicate that there’s a problem with their installation or that they need replacement.

Boiling your strings

Some players say that boiling your acoustic guitar strings will restore their bright sound. Instead, we recommend that you use a good quality string cleaner. Boiling them would require for you to take them off, which puts more stress on them, because your modifying their tension. This may lead them to break faster, and it could mess with the tone and volume of your instrument.

How to enhance the lifespan of your strings

To extend the use of your acoustic guitar strings, follow these suggestions:

  • To avoid the accumulation of dirt we recommend washing your hands before playing. This also helps if your hands perspire constantly as you play
  • Always wipe down the guitar strings. You should have a handy soft cloth available, and clean the top and bottom of every string. First, wipe down the top part of the strings with strength. Afterwards, slide the cloth under the strings, and pull it up as you clean the bottom part. This is the part where most of the dirt builds up, so clean it thoroughly. We recommend ToneGear String Cleaner or Planet Waves Microfiber Guitar Cloth
  • Wipe down the strings every 20 to 30 minutes if your hands are sweating
  • Use a good string cleaner and lubricant. There are some items that combine the two, but ensure that it’s a quality product
  • To remove dirt more effectively, dampen the cloth with Rubbing Alcohol and wipe the strings down every day

Hopefully you’ll be able to save some cash if you follow these tips, and you can use it to buy an acoustic guitar strap or another accessory you need. What matters most is that you are happy with the sound of your strings.

The Art of Creating Addictive Rap Beats

Do you love rap music so much that you are always drawn to it whether you’re looking for it or not? Because of this pull rap music has on you, has the idea of making your own rap music ever entered your mind? This is not the type of music making where you tap along or drum along as you listen to the music but rather the kind where it is you and only you playing the music. “Impossible!” you say. Yet, do you know that you can do it and you don’t even need to spend tons and tons of money to do it. “What do I need to make beats?” “How can I even start when I don’t know anything about the beat structure of rap music?”

Have you ever noticed how most songs, even rap music follow a certain structure or pattern? Many of them will start with a first stanza, followed by a chorus. Then there will be a second stanza followed by the same chorus. If a third stanza is present, this is what comes next followed again by the chorus. If not, then a bridge will follow with the chorus again. This is the basic structure of most songs with of course variations being individual expressions of the composers. Often times there will be a prelude and an ending or finale.

How you start or where you begin with making rap music is really dependent on only you. You may choose to follow standards or you may want your own method. What is of primary concern here to begin making rap music is that you need to buy the best beat making software you can find on the market. Find a program specifically designed to make beats and you will be able to make rap music faster and easier. These programs will come with lots of samples of different beats and musical instruments, with a variety of cool and awesome sound effects. You will be able to create professional sounding music from all these great samples and make fantastic rap music. The samples are included for your use to mix, edit and record as you desire and these will help you make fantastic rap beats. However, this is true only if you use the professional software and not the browser type of programs. Browser type programs never did produce professional music and are used only by people who want to try their hand at making music without serious thought to the end results. For professional sounding music the only way to go is with the professionally designed software.

With the techno beat maker software, you have everything you need to create your music and you can start producing fantastic rap beats almost immediately.

Free DJ Business Card Backgrounds

Recently I was working on a content page for DJ business cards and thought I’d take a bunch of old artwork and turn them into backgrounds for business cards.

They’re all free to use. Simply download them and either use them in Photoshop or at one of the printing services that allows you to design business cards on the fly.

A Positive Response to the Climate Crisis

So much of the activism surrounding the climate change issue uses language that, while accurate, produces a sub-consciously negative effect. Phrases like “stop global warming”, “fight climate change”, “end global warming”, etc may be technically correct, but words like “end, stop, fight, reduce, limit, curb” etc can all create a background hum of negativity, leading to apathy and inaction.

Meditating on this notion, I started brainstorming for ways of talking about climate change that used positive, reinforcing and inspiring language. Words like “prosper, build, create, develop” all have profoundly different affects on the mind.

The result was a climate change video that looks at the amazing things that are happening around the world, with the intent of inspiring motivated, passionate action. Another world is possible and it’s up to us to build it.
